Making a character

What species and class decide, and which things belong to the character rather than to you.

Updated September 20, 2026

You make a character once and it keeps what it is. Species and class are chosen at the start, and between them they decide almost everything about how you play.

Your species

Where you begin. Species sets your starting stats, how fast you move and jump, and what you naturally shrug off or suffer against. An Elf resists Ordis and suffers against Menos; a Dark Elf is the mirror of that; a Dwarf shakes off poison. There are seven, and you can read all of them in the Codex.

Your class

What you do. Class decides which of the three energies claims you, the dice your health and magic are rolled on, which stat powers your casting, what you are holding when you walk out, and the World Domination spell waiting at level 100. Seven of those too, also in the Codex.

What follows the character, and what follows you

This is worth knowing before you spend anything.

  • Yours, across every character: platinum, rerolls, character slots, and any species or class you have unlocked. Unlock a class once and every character you ever make can pick it.
  • The character's alone: its species, class and appearance, its stats, its silver and gold, its bags, its heartstones and its familiars.

So a second character starts from nothing of its own, but never has to buy an unlock twice.

Changing your mind

Appearance can be changed later. Species and class are what you chose, and that is the point of choosing — if you want to be something else, that is what another character slot is for.
