Excerpt from The Atheria Chronicles: 342 A.N.

Through the Hero Party, the Guild did not just discover the Aetheon; their early founding members were a mix of brilliant arcane scholars and devout clerics who made a groundbreaking discovery:

Specific frequencies of combined Menos and Ordis can be used to temporarily widen a fissure, creating a brief unstable gateway into the Aetheon. As the Guild began to explore the Aetheon, they discovered the constant collision of Order and Chaos inside the void continually creates new pocket dimensions that results in an infinite number of shifting realities being formed. Two adventurers walking in moments apart could be taken to two completely different realities.

This led to the creation of Resonance Keys. These are complex magical devices crafted by the Guild that are forged from rare materials found only around Nexus, likely due to the surrounding area being saturated with the Aetheon’s energy. Each key is attuned to a specific reality, allowing adventurers to safely enter a reality.

Each key has a limited number of uses and is considered very valuable. The Guild maintains tight controls on keys to ensure only qualified adventurers may enter an investigated reality. An adventurer must first purchase a key from the Guild and activate it at an approved Aetheon focal point. Once inside the gateway seals behind the adventurer and their party. The only ways out are to use special recall scrolls that are tuned to our own reality or to die and be resurrected in the Temple of Aethelos. This is why the Guild only sends well equipped and powerful adventurers on sanctioned delves.
