Great Cataclysm

Excerpt From The Atheria Chronicles: Written 342 A.N.

Although our world is ancient, we do not know much about what happened before the Dark Age. All records from this time have been lost. For thousands of years chaos, famine and war have plagued Atheria. The scholars and church have surmised that our God, the benevolent creator of Atheria, Aethelos, lived and communed with the mortals in harmony and order, shaping them and the world in its image.

Then in an instant, millenniums of peace were shattered and pure chaos enveloped Atheria. A cosmic parasite emerged from the silent void between realities to feed off the one true power, Aether. This being of chaos did not seek to conquer the world but consume it. It sought to unravel creation itself and leave absolute nothingness in its wake.

Aethelos, a god of creation, could not destroy a being of non-existence. To save its world, Aethelos made the ultimate sacrifice and channeled all the Aether of the world into his being, merging it with his divine essence and consciousness to crystallize its divine will into the absolute, unchangeable concept of Order.

The collision of the new Order and pure Chaos split the continents, separating the species, and created the paradoxical prison known as the Aetheon over the void breach, trapping and sealing the Chaos within. In this act, Aethelos died, severing its direct connection to the world. The god of Atheria was gone, leaving behind only its final, silent duty: to be an eternal prison.

While Aethelos sacrifice was absolute, it was also an act of desperation and was not a clean process but rather a violent collision of cosmic forces that left unstable microscopic fissures where the pure Order did not perfectly form. The immense chaotic energy that is trying to escape from within the Aetheon by constantly pushing against these weak points. This causes magical energy to build up and leak into the world. Eventually creating a breach into our world, where creatures from different pocket realities pour into Atheria causing waves of destruction and death in their wake.

It was not until the Hero Party appeared 342 years ago to save all the species on the island at the center of their collision and founded Nexus that a semblance of peace and order was restored. Through their leadership, the Guild was created, bringing in a new age of Adventure and with it a beacon of hope.

The Hero Party brought together the brightest minds and with their direction, we learned to use the raw untamed magical energies that pour into Atheria from the Aetheon and the void within for our benefit. Three distinct energy sources were discovered that provide immense power and give us a chance to fight back the hordes of monsters that come through the World Breaches.
