Excerpt from the Atheria Chronicles: 342 A.N.
Three powerful magic types were formed from the formation of the Aetheon in additional to the traditional elemental magic that was known before.
Menos
The chaotic radiation called Menos that we believe comes from the Chaos Being is a powerful and destructive source of magic. The use of Menos requires the use of a conduit such as a wand or staff to be used safely, which is preferred by mages. Nightblades use specially crafted daggers they wield in combat as their conduit. Warlocks on the otherhand, dangerously channel the chaos magic directly, often putting themselves and others at risk. Over channeling as been known to cause madness.
Ordis
The opposing power that holds Menos at bay is called Ordis and is the divine healing magic, which must originate from Aethelos’ sacrifice. Paladins and Clerics access this divine order magic through prayer and reflection.
Vitra
A third power called Vitra that is part of all living beings and nature is also present and likely a residue of creation itself. Warriors and Rangers tap into this internal powerful through vigorous training and meditation. The strongest are even able to draw from the environment and nature itself.
Elemental magic
Each adventure class has learned to harness the magical energies of the natural elements of Atheria.
Mages with their dedication and study have unlocked the use of both fire and ice magic. Nightblades drawn to the undetectable and explosive lightning have mastered its deadly power and speed. Warlocks only care to channel Menos directly, allowing them to even summon monsters from other realities and have some minor control of the void itself.
The Warriors use Earth to their advantage using their Vitra enhanced power to send boulders, sandstorms and even earthquakes towards their enemies. Rangers utilize the natural wind to slash enemies from afar and bring down a gale force of wind and tempests.
Clerics utilize the healing properties of water to aid their allies and keep enemies at bay. Paladins are devoted solely to Ordis and call upon its holy power to vanquish evil.
