Heartstones

Excerpt from The Atheria Chronicles: 342 A.N.

These amazing and mysterious gems are revealed when cracking the cores left behind from defeated monsters. When forged into an adventurer’s weapon it gives the wielder special defensive and offensive effects, such as resistance and increased elemental damage. The name Heartstone is an oddity as none of the gems are shaped like a heart, but the early Guild history show the Hero Party was adamant they be called Heartstones.

We have had a huge breakthrough with the Heartstone Forge! A new process called Transmutation has been developed to change the magical properties of Heartstones! It does not change the rarity of a Heartstone, and it is not very efficient yet, taking five similar rarities to create a single new variety. None the less, this is amazing progress.

More exciting through a process called Fusion, we are now able to combine five heartstones of the same kind and rarity into a single higher rarity increasing its effect’s power level. Five legendary fire damage Heartstones that give 12% extra damage combine into one mythic Heartstone that does 25% damage. The process is also reversible so 1 mythic can be separated into five legendary Heartstones. It seems like there is a finite level of power shared throughout all the heartstones that can be focused without destroying its properties.
